Maria Solomou

“An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don't.” ~Anatole France

Londontown is a massilvely multi-player virtual world that is currently being developed at Indiana University, under the supervision of Lee Sheldon. Londontown hosts a non-linear narrative through which players encounter figures like Jane Austen, Charles Darwin, Sherlock Holmes, and other characters from the Victorian era. The in-game stories are non-linear, ongoing and may overlap.

The project is voluntary and developed by students. Maria is the Lead for the design team that crafts the game and includes feature design, level design and interface design. The design team collaborates with the writers to develop the scripts for quests and other in-game interactions, with the audio and art team for the game's sounds and interface, with the production team for the approval and refinement of the designs, as well as with the programming team for the development of the designs.

Narrative and Game play...

The story unfolds in London, UK, during the Victorian era (1837-1901) and is played out in the Crystal Palace. Depending on the class and the profession players take, there are quests unlocked that serve the narrative of the game,

Players enter the game and are part of one of the social classes (high, middle, or lower class). The Non-Player Characters (NPCs) bring stories from the Victorian era to life and react according to the players' choices and actions.
